Pre-Primary

The whole curriculum of pre-primary is knit in themes, like, ‘Myself’, ‘Travel’, ‘Animals’, etc. The learning objectives are carefully inculcated in these Themes (one book per theme). Language, Mathematics, Arts, EVS- all domains are integrated in books and it is balanced as per the learning objectives, of course, keeping in mind the age-appropriateness.

Language

The language teaching approach at HES is guided by the fundamental idea of language being an inherent part of a person’s life as a medium of communication.The curriculum facilitates the students with numerous structured opportunities to listen, speak, read and write. Opportunities are embedded in meaningful and authentic contexts of everyday life. Students at HES see the relevance of what they are learning in real life situations.

Environmental Studies

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”

Environmental Studies curriculum is shaped in such a way that it does not only give information but also maintains that each child is able to construct his or her own understanding, knowledge, skills and attitude by exploring the surroundings.

Theme Based Learning (TBL): Classes 2 and 3 TBL is built around child centered perspective of themes. The themes with several aspects which are much available around the children are selected and planned. Interesting hands- on activities help young learners to develop and understand relationships between natural, social and cultural environment.

Reading project is an effort from HES community to develop reading habits in children starting with grade II. Literature of different genre is short listed by dedicated Team of reading teachers.

Immersed in the world of books and print- rich environment, reading curriculum unfolds in a spiral manner from ‘Learning to Read’ stage to ‘Reading to Learn’ stage.

Social Science

Inquiry based learning cycle is the foundation of Social Science Curriculum at HES.

It is framed keeping the principles and values enumerated in NCF 2005 in focus. It encompasses diverse concerns of society and includes a wide range of content, drawn from the disciplines of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics. Social Science curriculum focuses to develop the skills in learners that are vital to encounter real life problems of society so that they develop the understanding of democratic values.
